A Wildlife Garden
A four acre garden surrounding a unique thatch cottage in a rural setting with woodland.
Oxford Lawns and Gardens designed and orgainsed the specialist implementation of a stream and large pool within the gardens. Subsequent planting of moisture loving and aquatic plants around the pool and along the stream along with areas of turf and specimen shrubs were planted to add to the woodland feel of the garden.
A bank was formed when the pool was excavated and the sides of this was cloaked with the coloured stems of salix and cornus for winter colour along with multi stemmed betula jaqmontii. An existing straight long path leading from the house through the garden provided the edge from which a wide border could be viewed. This border was planted with a mix of traditional herbaceous plants with obelisks for structure with clematis and roses.
A small parterre near to the house was planted to be viewed from the house, originally planted to have seasonal interest the parterre has now been in filled with lavender.
A large programme of planting trees and shrubs throughout the rest of the garden was carried out, with the removal of an old leylandii hedge which split the garden in two.
